How do we effectively measure floodplain flows? In February 2026 the British Hydrological Society and FDRI bought together hydrological researchers and practitioners into a hybrid workshop to explore this critical question.

Why? A better understanding of floodplain flows is vital to improve early warning systems, flood defences and infrastructure design: but, we still face many uncertainties in the data.

What did we do? We explored different quantification methods through interactive sessions and a visit to SEPA gauging stations in the Upper Tweed, exploring future potential for measurements.

What's next? We'll be planning future events - sign up to FDRI's newsletter to stay in the loop.

A huge thanks to the organising committee, all of our speakers, workshop facilitators and attendees for bringing the workshop to life!
