The FDRI team has been working with many of you to help understand the River Chess sub-catchment of the Thames basin. With this information we have created a perceptual model of the hydrological features and processes in the catchment. Perceptual models are fundamental to FDRI as they will be used to develop catchment monitoring designs.
We are now asking for your feedback on the Chess perceptual model. We need your help to check if we have missed any important knowledge or existing understanding of the hydrological features and processes in the catchment.
Before answering the survey linked below, please ensure that you read through the participant information sheet and privacy notice so you understand the purpose of the survey, why you have been asked to take part, your rights to remove consent and how we will manage your survey responses and personal information.
The questions we would like feedback on are:
- Is our understanding of how water is stored within, moves through or leaves the Chess catchment complete?
- Is there additional knowledge, understanding or data that we should be aware of? We are interested in all information affecting water in the catchment.
- From your perspective what are the major areas of uncertainty in our knowledge?
- Please propose monitoring priorities; including your rationale.
- Are you currently collecting any hydrological data in the catchment? In addition to that presented in the document. Please provide details.
- Are you aware of any past or planned land use changes or interventions that may have or could alter the hydrology of the Chess?
How do I respond to the consultation?
You can answer the survey by completing this online form. If you are unable to access this form you can submit your answers to fdri@ceh.ac.uk, along with your full name, organisation and job title (if representing an organisation). You can also email this address if you are unable to download the perceptual model from the website, would like to submit any supporting files or need further assistance.
You can watch this short video, which introduces the perceptual model and the feedback we are seeking.
Responses will be continually monitored, and we’d really appreciate any early feedback. To inform our design responses should be submitted by Friday 31 January. However, we will welcome responses later than 31 January as the design will be an iterative process and we will endeavour to take account of all contributions.
A second round of consultation, in spring 2025, will focus on our proposed monitoring design. The design will be based on the current perceptual model and the feedback received.
We will be developing the perceptual models for the Severn and Tweed in 2025 and will be in touch with stakeholders and interested parties with details of the next steps.
