In spring 2025 (dates to be confirmed), we will be hosting a series of online co-design workshops that will focus on the development of the User Interfaces (UI) of the new FDRI systems.

These workshops will build on insights from several strands of recent research led by the UKCEH Environmental Data Science Design team, including ‘DRI Futures’, which focused on identifying overarching priorities for Digital Research Infrastructure, and the ‘DataLabs Enhancements’ study, which focuses on the usability of the DataLabs platform, as well as initial engagement work involving users and developers of some of the first FDRI tools to reach the development stage (e.g. Remote Field Monitors).

The workshops will adopt a Speculative Design approach to explore future usage scenarios for FDRI systems, and the workshop’s outputs will feed directly into the ongoing design and development of those systems. More details about the workshops will be included in a forthcoming preliminary publication that will also provide a high-level summary of the range of digital FDRI systems that are currently in-development.

When the workshop dates are announced we'll be sure to communicate it on our social media channels and through our mailing list, so watch this space!
