In February 2025 Prof Mike Bowes and Dr Gareth Old, both representing FDRI from UKCEH, met with Prof Adrian Stanica, lead of DANUBIUS-RI from GeoEcoMar, Romania and Prof Andrew Tyler, lead of Forth-ERA from University of Stirling, Scotland, to explore opportunities for further collaboration over their closely aligned research infrastructures.
The Forth-ERA (with instrumentation throughout the Firth of Forth catchment, Scotland) and the FDRI (with an instrumentation in the Thames basin, England) provide key components of the two UK supersites of the pan-European DABUBIUS-RI research infrastructure on River-Sea systems. We are currently exploring how we can use these infrastructures to catalyse scientific collaboration across Europe. Forging key international partnerships will allow FDRI to both learn from other infrastructures but also contribute to driving research forward.
